The client, an American multinational publishing company, focuses on academic publishing and instruction materials. The Data Analytics & Insights team used Netezza Data Warehouse Appliances as analytical Data Stores hosted in their data center. IBM gradually discontinued support for Non-production Netezza appliances and Production Netezza appliances last year.

Challenges

 

  • The client was experiencing increasing variety in data formats (xml, json, text …) from internal/external sources that needed to be joined with other datasets
  • Data needs to be transformed and stored in the relational format before it could be used.
  • The client also needed the ability to scale and shrink storage and compute or spin up data science computes clusters dedicated to specific business units.

Migration of Data Assets from Teradata

Solution

  • Exported data from RDBMS to S3 buckets using python connectors
  • Imported data into staging tables from S3 buckets
  • Built CDC Logic to handle the Insert/Update/Delete in Snowflake

Successfully migrated critical data from legacy data warehouse and databases to the snowflake. Also, necessary transformations are performed to make data business-friendly and ready for analytics.
